5207	E	5c 1879 "Unpaid Postage" Die Essay of Engraved Vignette with Wash Drawing (J4-E2). 70 x 88mm card, the frame with pencil and wash drawing, the vignette engraved, cut to shape and pasted into place, the central number also engraved, cut to shape and pasted on top of the engraved vignette, with pencil "1-2-3-5 All the same, make shield on each side broader and finish each end of panel" at top and "Approved A. D. Haven 3rd Asst. PMG Ap. 12/99" at bottom, clipped corners, additional red and green crayon notations on back VERY FINE. A UNIQUE ESSAY FOR THE UNISSUED "UNPAID POSTAGE" ISSUE, WITH THE FRAME CONSISTING OF A PENCIL AND WASH DRAWING AND THE VIGNETTE CONSISTING OF TWO CUTOUTS OF THE PRINTED VIGNETTE. With 2005 P.F. certificate. This is a relatively new listing to Scott Catalogue, and is the only hand-drawn essay of the unadopted "Unpaid Postage" design.
