Redout, Pleasant Plains near Annapolis Md.", trivial edgewear VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL CLEAR STRIKE OF THE ANNAPOLIS POSTMASTER'S SEAL, WHICH WAS USED TO MAKE THE FAMOUS POSTMASTER PROVISIONAL ENVELOPES AND ALSO WAS RARELY APPLIED AS A POSTMARK. 1012°		Brattleboro, Vermont, 5c Black on Buff (5X1). Position 7 with sheet margin at bottom, framelines complete on all four sides, light red pen mark at upper left, proof-like impression, small thins as usual VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE CONDITION OF THIS STAMP IS FAR SUPERIOR TO MANY OF THE 32 RECORDED OFF-COVER EXAMPLES OF THE BRATTLEBORO PROVISIONAL. AN OUTSTANDING RARITY FROM THE ORIGINAL CHUBBUCK SHEET. This stamp comes from the sheet retained by the printer, Thomas Chubbuck, who sold three stamps to collectors before selling the remaining block of seven to L. H. Bragg in September 1870. Bragg, in turn, sold the block to John W. Scott. The stamps from the Chubbuck block were eventually cut apart and sold to different collectors. In the 1920's Raymond W. Lapham, with the professional help of Warren H. Colson, reconstructed the Brattleboro plate positions, including some stamps from the Chubbuck sheet. With 2007 P.F. certificate. 1013°		Brattleboro Vt., 5c Black on Buff (5X1). Position 4, large margins to full, cancelled by red "PAID" handstamp, second strike at left, matching "Brattleboro Vt. Oct. 10" (1846) circular datestamp on bluish folded cover to L. B. Woodruff in New York City, stamp with tiny indentations on left side of signature vignette, cover with trivial age spots, toned spot on back EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A FRESH AND ATTRACTIVE COVER WITH A FOUR-MARGIN EXAMPLE OF THE BRATTLEBORO POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL. ONLY NINETEEN COVERS ARE RECORDED. The unpublished Brattleboro census by Philip T. Position 36, initials top to bottom, large margins to just clear at top left, sheet margin at bottom, cancelled solely by two strikes of red "Paid" arc handstamp, without pen cancel, one "Paid" ties stamp at bottom and thru cover, third strike at top of cover, matching red "New-York 5 cts. 5 Mar." integral-rate circular datestamp on blue folded cover to J. B. Congdon in New Bedford Mass., central file fold well clear of stamp VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 5-CENT NEW YORK POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL WITH "RHM" INITIALS ON COVER FROM NEW YORK -- ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE TIED BY THE RED "PAID" HANDSTAMP. The "RHM" initialed stamp is extremely rare on cover. Because of the New Hamburgh find, it is as rare used from New York City as used to New York City. Philip T. Wall recorded only six "RHM" covers used from New York in his Chronicle series, though he was not aware of this cover. Two of the covers recorded by Wall are addressed to the same recipient as this cover. They are dated March 13 (ex Caspary and Weill) and March 19 (ex Col. Green and Weill). LOUIS PROVISIONAL ON GREENISH PAPER. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD UNUSED EXAMPLE WE HAVE EVER OFFERED.
