1241 og/nhOc   Extraordinary Washington and Franklin issues specialized collection, a comprehensive and voluminous collection that is arranged chronologically by Scott number, with nearly all issues represented except for coils and booklet panes, each stamp generally includes showings of mint and used singles with plenty of pleasing duplication, often for shades, mint and used blocks of four, also prolifically duplicated, mint and used plate blocks (yes, used plate blocks), including matched sets, sets of arrow, center line and corner blocks of imperforates, multiples, extensive precancels including early designs, perfins, numerous covers and cards throughout, especially plate number singles but also many better usages, including from China, many cancels, excellent plate varieties and flaws such as double transfers, plate cracks and the like, and many errors, freaks and oddities, including some very dramatic misperforated, paper fold, under and over inkings, etc., all this neatly mounted and annotated on quadrille or Hagner pages in 16 albums, this is both a valuable and powerful collection as the following selected highlights should illustrate: #331-42 complete in mint blocks of four, two examples of the rare #374 pane of 60, two sets of #374-82 mint blocks of four, #414-23 mint blocks of four, #424 and #425 complete set of all four numbers used on "COIL STAMPS" plate blocks, plus a 1c plate block on cover and a used 2c plate, #424-40 mint blocks of four, #460 mint and two used blocks of four, #462-76 mint blocks of four, #467 double error in block of six, single error in strip of three and used single tied to piece, #477 pair, #478-8 mint blocks of four, #498b, 499a block of six with plate no., #499h, 500 mint and used singles and blocks, plus a cover, #505 double error in a block of 30 with plate no., used single on piece and two usages on cover, #519 mint and two used, the offset issues are amazing with a considerable number of plate blocks, including matched sets, and varieties, including double impressions, then #540a block of four on cover, two each #545 and #546 mint blocks and a #546 used block and ending with #547 block of four and strip of four with plate numbers, the overall quality is excellent, with very little faulty material noted, there is a surprising amount of premium quality material to be found throughout, with jumbo-margined singles, choice quality blocks of four or full top plate blocks, overall mostly o.g., l.h., n.h. or used, fine to extremely fine; a fantastic high quality collection well suited for continuation which really should be viewed to be fully appreciated. 1249 c   19th century cover accumulation, general collector's lifetime accumulation of several hundreds of virtually all 19th century covers housed in four cover albums, auction lot cards and loose, the majority are 3c 1869 issue covers (in which he intended to specialize) from a wide range of small towns and with some cancellation interest and multiple frankings, the largest being with six stamps, the rest includes 1c 1851 and 1857 issues with some better frankings such as #20 strip of three, fancy cancels, advertising and corner card covers, some higher value frankings including 24c 1861 to England and a correspondence of 40 covers to France franked with #205, among the few 20th century covers is a 65c Graf Zeppelin on flown card to Seville, of which only 55 were carried, typical mixed condition, many fine-very fine.
