706 nh 449 image#449, 2c Red rotary coil, Ty. I, perf. 10 horiz., joint line pair, incredibly well centered within very large margins, fabulously bright and fresh, rich characteristic red color distinctive only to genuine examples, pristine o.g. without a single gum bend or skip, never hinged, extremely fine. The rarity of the Two Cent Type I rotary plate coil is a result of its very limited lifespan, having been issued in December 1915, only to be replaced by the Type III design in February 1916. Additionally, its release was virtually unnoticed by philatelists at the time and very few were saved. To acquire a joint line pair of this rarity is a challenge few of today's philatelists are ever able to accomplish. To find one in the spectacular quality of the example from the Floyd collection is, quite literally, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as it possesses overall qualities unlike any other in existence. Besides its extraordinary overall freshness, its centering is one of its greatest virtues, with large well balanced margins all around including the top and bottom of each stamp. Plus, its joint line is not only superbly positioned, but it is also cleanly printed, versus the more typically seen overinked printed line. Finally, to be never hinged is a perfectionist's dream. This incomparable #449 joint line pair is one of the great condition rarities in 20th century United States philately. Accompanied by a 1973 PF certificate and a 2001 PSE certificate.
