SOLD for $4,250.00
Closing..Sep-13, 05:00 PM
162 og 201 image#201, 30c Greenish black special printing, without gum as issued, an extraordinarily select example of this important United States rarity, which places it among the very finest in existence, possessing outstanding centering for this, with large margins all around, rich unmistakable greenish black color and a strong detailed impression on bright paper, extremely fine; approximately 40 examples are thought to exist of the Thirty Cent Soft Paper Special Printing, and perhaps ten or less are both sound and well centered; 1972 PF certificate. (Image) 12,500.00

SOLD for $16,000.00
Closing..Sep-13, 05:00 PM
163 og 202 image#202, 90c Dull carmine special printing, without gum as issued, a handsome example of this very rare stamp, distinctive warm rich special printing color on bright paper, attractively centered, particularly when compared to the small existing population, very fine; less than 40 copies exist of this value, which is one of the most difficult to find both sound and in such choice condition; 1948 and 1998 PF certificates. (Image) 15,000.00

SOLD for $10,000.00
Closing..Sep-13, 05:00 PM
164 og 205C image#205C, 5c Gray brown special printing, without gum as issued, extraordinarily well centered amid large margins, rich luxuriant color and a razor-sharp impression, completely free of the flaws which affect several of the known copies, fully intact and even perforations, extremely fine. A marvelous example of this incredibly rare stamp. A total of only 22 different copies have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation as genuine Five Cent Garfield Special Printings. Because of the extreme rarity of this stamp, very few collectors will ever have a chance to own a copy of this elusive special printing, and fewer still can acquire one in such outstanding quality. Signed E. Stern and accompanied by 1944 APS, 1991 PF and 1993 PSE certificates; ex-Neinken, "Southern Cross" Collection, Weisman and Lyons (where it realized $42,500.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium, Shreves Philatelic Galleries, Inc., January 2000). (Image) 35,000.00

SOLD for $37,500.00
Closing..Sep-13, 05:00 PM
165 og 211D image#211D, 4c Deep blue green special printing, without gum as issued, incredibly well centered within especially wide and even margins, intense rich color and a sharp detailed impression, fully intact perforations all around, extremely fine. There are only 26 recorded examples of this immensely rare stamp, 25 of which have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation. The number known exactly coincides with Post Office records which indicate that 26 copies of the Four Cent Special Printing were sold. Therefore it is highly unlikely any further examples will ever be found that will be certified by the P.F. One of the finest known examples of this great rarity. An exciting stamp that would make a marvelous addition to a serious collection of United States stamps. Signed "SA" (Spencer Anderson) and accompanied by 1946 and 1992 PF certificates; ex-Golin (where it realized $40,000.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium, Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries, Inc., June 1999). (Image) 27,500.00
