1874-1875 Overprints continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1481 og S.G. #26b imageS.G. #26b, 1875 "2d" on "Twelve Cents" surcharge on 6p Rose with Gothic "V.R.", variety inverted "A" for "V" and raised period after "V", attractive appearing unused example of this variety that is only found on four positions in the setting of 50, exceptionally well centered, internal hinge faults, very fine appearance and quite scarce; ex-Col. Evans (Scott #32a var.). (Image) £1,700

SOLD for $250.00
Closing..Mar-08, 12:00 PM
1482 O S.G. #26c imageS.G. #26c, 1875 "2d" on "Twelve Cents" surcharge on 6p Rose with Gothic "V.R.", variety inverted "A" for "V" and raised period after "V" and "R", used example with neat ms. cancel, trivial surface scuff at bottom left, otherwise fine; only two positions in the setting of 50 show this variety (Scott #32a var.). (Image) £850

SOLD for $300.00
Closing..Mar-08, 12:00 PM
1483 O S.G. #26d/a imageS.G. #26d/a 1875 "2d" on "Twelve Cents" surcharge on 6p Rose with Gothic "V.R.", variety double "2d/V.R." surcharge, a very clearly printed used example of this rare overprint error, in addition this also shows the variety of inverted "A" for "V", when one considers that only two sheets of 50 were printed with the double surcharge, and that only three positions in each sheet show this variety with a total of six stamps like this originally printed, it is reasonable to speculate that this may be the only surviving copy, small repaired cancel cuts at top do not affect the rarity of this stamp or its very fine appearance; variety unlisted but Stanley Gibbons prices the normal double surcharge at £3,250, of which 60 were believed printed; 2001 RPS of Victoria certificate; ex-Col. Evans (Scott #32c var.; as normal double surcharge $3,250.00). (Image) Est. 3,000-4,000

SOLD for $6,500.00
Closing..Mar-08, 12:00 PM
1484 O S.G. #26 var. imageS.G. 26 var., 1875 "2d" on "Twelve Cents" surcharge on 6p Rose, "V.R." omitted, this unusual and unlisted error apparently occured because a piece of foreign matter came between the stamp and the overprint plate while printing the surcharge, actually it is not possible to tell whether this is a variety of S.G. #26 or #27 since the distinguishing characteristic is precisely what is missing, lightly cancelled, small back faults and about fine centering, but undoubtedly unique (Scott #32 var.). (Image) Est. 750-1,000

SOLD for $250.00
Closing..Mar-08, 12:00 PM
1485 O S.G. #27 imageS.G. #27, 1875 "2d" on "Twelve Cents" surcharge on 6p Rose with Roman "V.R.", a pretty used single, well centered within full to large margins, neat Levuka double arc c.d.s. that cuts the stamp as usual, still very fine; strangely undervalued in the catalogs compared to S.G. #26 as only nineteen of the 50 positions in the sheet are #27 while 31 are #26; clear 2001 RPS of Victoria certificate; ex-Col. Evans (Scott #31; $650.00). (Image) £700

SOLD for $2,100.00
Closing..Mar-08, 12:00 PM
