1907 KING EDWARD VII POSTAL HISTORY
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
2158 c S.G. #13 imageS.G. #13, 1907 4p Brown and blue, single franking on registered cover to England, tied by "George Town/Grand Cayman/JY 3 07" c.d.s., Type 4 pmk., Mobile registry label crossed off when a New York label was applied, transit postmarks of both cities on the reverse, backstamped Leeks, addressee's manufactures agent printed corner card on the backflap, tiny edge piece out at top, very fine; this franking would cover the double Empire letter rate of 1p plus 2p registry fee. (Scott #13). (Image) Est. 400-500

SOLD for $600.00
Will close during Public Auction
2159 c S.G. #13 imageS.G. #13, 1907 4p Brown and blue, single franking tied to an "On His Majesty's Service" cover to Boston by clear "George Town/Grand Cayman/JA 29 08" c.d.s., Type 4 pmk., Kingston transit on the reverse, an overall clean and fresh example of this official posting, very fine; this is an interesting cover that illustrates the shortage of low value stamps during this period as the proper rate was the 2 1/2p letter rate, this cover was overpaid by the postmistress, who certainly knew the rate; the shortage of 2 1/2p stamps resulted in the provisional "2 1/2p" surcharge on this value two weeks later. (Image) Est. 300-400

SOLD for $400.00
Will close during Public Auction
2160 c S.G. #13 imageS.G. #13, 1907 4p Brown and blue, horizontal pair tied to registered double-rate cover to Vienna, Austria by typically indistinct Type 4 c.d.s. of Georgetown, a Jamaica registry oval and London registry label on the front with two different transits of that city on the reverse, backstamped, two vertical folds and mild edge wrinkles, not affecting the stamps or markings, a fine commercial usage; the pair pays two times the 2 1/2p foreign letter rate and 2p registry fee, being 1p overpaid at a time when low values were in short supply (Scott #13). (Image) Est. 300-400

SOLD for $250.00
