1561 ogc UO11 image#UO11, 3c Blue Post Office Dept. on blue, die PD5, size 7, knife 30, wmk. 2, an immensely rare mint entire, being one of the rarest of all U.S. stamped envelope entires, an attractive and desirable example of the smallest size, small separation along the backflap fold at left, very fine and choice; there are a total of six different 3c Blue on blue Post Office entires listed in UPSS that come under Scott #UO11, all differ by size or gumming and each is believed to be unique, two are in two different large legal sizes, both with discoloration and toning, there are two medium envelopes in size 10, one with round gum was sold a couple of times in the 1990's, the whereabouts of the one with square gum is unknown, and finally there are two in this small size 7, the one with square hand gum was sold in Shreves March 2002 Premier Sale over five years ago where it realized $37,500.00 plus the buyer's premium, the one offered here is the example with round machine applied gum, both of these small size envelopes are among the finest of the six known envelopes having little of the soiling and toning found on the others; an excellent opportunity for the advanced collector seeking to ultimately obtain an example of every known mint entire; ex-Barkhausen (UPSS #PD47). 1574 ogc UO32 image#UO32, 2c Vermilion War Dept. on white, die WD2, size 6, knife 17, wmk. 2, an immaculate entire of this extremely rare Reay War Department envelope, brilliant vermilion color on high quality bright white paper, crisp unsoiled edges, extremely fine; this value in either color on white paper is very scarce as a cut square, though it is frequently found in major collections of cut squares, apparently most existing examples of the 2c Vermilion on white envelope, which only comes in this one UPSS number, have been cut down to cut squares because the entire envelope is a major postal stationery rarity that has not been on the market in many years; this is believed to be one of only two examples that are known and the first example that we have ever offered; unpriced as an entire in Scott; signed R.H.
