put together, each indicia is cancelled by a four bar grid with mat1898 2c Black, lavender and carmine Imperial Penny Postage, two singles on a very unusual newspaper wrapper to Sweden, made up of two 1c Green newspaper bands (Unitrade #PB6) put together, each indicia is cancelled by a four bar grid with matching central strikes on the 2c Map stamps, fancy pencil decoration added at left and edge tears at bottom, mostly on the reverse, fine; this wrapper was reported in an article authored by the collector in the March 1998 edition of The Canadian Philatelist (Vol. 49, No. 2, pp132-34), he speculated that this was an improvised envelope overpaying the 5c U.P.U. letter, however it may be an even rarer usage, since the ends are not sealed as an envelope would be and mute cancels were regularly used on printed matter, it is quite likely that this was used to send a fairly large roll of newspapers (1c per 2 oz. x 6 for 12 oz), an extremely rare usage in its own right, but this is also the only known postal item with the Two Cent Map stamps used to Sweden (Unitrade 85). newspaper, The Evening Telegram, a prominent Free Mason being Past GrandJohn Ross Robertson autographed letter signed and first day cover of the inauguration of the domestic rate change from 3c to 2c, Robertson was the founder of the Toronto newspaper, The Evening Telegram, a prominent Free Mason being Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Canada and a tireless promoter of Canada's Map stamp, this letter was posted to another Mason in Hamilton, Ontario, the legal size cover has a 2c Black, blue and carmine (slightly damaged from edge wear to the cover) tied by "Toronto/Jan 1/1899" flag cancel with time designation "1-0", postmaster's certification at left reads, "This is to Certify that this Letter was mailed at the Toronto Post Office at One quarter of a minute past twelve o'clock on the morning of the 1st January 1899 and is the first Letter to be posted and cancelled at the Toronto Post Office on the inauguration of the Two Cent postal rate in the Dominion of Canada." and signed by the Assistant Postmaster, another first of the first postings being certified from Toronto, but certainly the first cover in all of Canada as well, some edge wear to the cover causing a couple of minor edge tears, still very attractive and a wonderful historical document as well as a rare posting; ex-Bain.
