3776		5c Bright Red Brown (28b). Radiant color, scissors-separated causing s.e. at sides, used with 1c Blue, Ty. V (24), vertical strip of three and single of 3c Dull Red, Ty. III (26) and horizontal pair of 10c Green, Ty. II (32), tied by "New Orleans La. Nov. 22, 1858" circular datestamps on orange cover to Genoa, Italy, endorsed "Via London" and with "GB/40c" Anglo-French accountancy marking, also with ms. "2" indicating double weight, large ms. "16" for 1.6 lira due, London, Paris and arrival backstamps, 3c strip placed over edge of cover and also scissors-separated affecting perfs, 1c piece out at upper right, still Very Fine, a colorful and very unusual usage, franked to pay the 38c rate via Prussian Closed Mail, this must have missed the sailing of the HAPAG's Borussia on Dec. 1 and was instead placed aboard the Inman Line's City of Baltimore and sent via Open Mail, the stamps ended up only paying the 21c rate via American Packet with the remainder due from recipient, with 2006 P.F. certificate (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com	E. 1,500-2,000 CLOSED Will close during Public Auction

Phila, New York, Boston & Cincinnati" imprint from Plate 1, well-centered, fresh, tied by "New Orleans La." double-circle datestamps on Dec. 1860 folded letter to France, red "Boston Paid 6" credit datestamp, French transits EXTREMELY FINE STRIP AND COVER. THE ONLY RECORDED COVER WITH A 5-CENT 1857 MULTIPLE SHOWING THE IMPRINT. Our Levi records of the 5c 1857 contain numerous covers with strips in all shades, but only the strip on this cover shows any part of the imprint. Ex Consul Klep, Grunin, Zoellner and Sevenoaks.
