Tied by 7-bar grid cancel on cover with Kamehameha V free frank "K.V." and addressed in his hand "To/Her Majesty/The Queen/&c &c &c/Hawaii", clear "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands Jan. 9" circular datestamp, stamp lifted to show the word "Free", the cover should have passed free but possibly slipped into a pile of mail intended for intra or inter-island franking, cover toning barely affects stamp

Sep. 3, 1879" circular datestamp on yellow cover to Kawaihae, Sep. 10, 1879 receiving datestamp, all markings clearly struck, small nick out of bottom right corner, still fresh and Extremely Fine cover, the distance between these two towns on the island of Hawaii is approximately 100 miles, which apparently required a week to cover (Image)
