682°   The Davey Collection of Hawaiian Town Markings. Three Scott National albums of pages from the Davey collection, wide range of issues and cancels from different towns, incl. town postmarks, circular datestamps, some manuscript markings, arranged by island as follows:

One volume contains markings solely from Oahu starting with Aiea and ending at Waipahu, incl. Ewa, Hauula, Heeia, comprehensive group of Honolulu, Honouliuli, Kahuku, Kaneohe, Laie, Peninsula, Punaluu, Waialua, Waianae, Waikane and Waipahu

Second volume continues with Island of Hawaii incl. Hakalau, Hilea, significant section of Hilo, Holualoa, Honokaa, Honomu, Honuapo, Hookena, Hoopuloa, Kailua, Kalapana, Kapoho, Kau, Kawaihae, Keaau, Kealakekua, Keauhou, Kohala, Kukuihaele, Laupahoehoe and Beach, Mahukona, Naalehu, Napoopoo, Olaa, and Plantation, Ookala, Paauilo, Paauhau, Pahala, Papaikou, Pohoiki, Puehuehu, Punaluu, Volcano House, Waimea, Waiohinu and Waipio.

Maui is part of third volume and includes Haiku, Hamakuapoku, Hamoa, Hana, Huelo, Kahului incl. "Postage Paid" provisional (12 known), Keanae, Kihei, Kipahulu, Lahaina, Makawao, Nahiku, Paia, Spreckelsville and Wailuku incl. 2c provisional envelope (less than ten known).

Third volume continues with Kauai and includes Wailuku, Eleele, Hanalei, Hanapepe, Kapaa, Kealia, Kekaha, Kilauea, Koloa, Lihue, Makaweli, Mana, Waimea

Third volume also contains some from Molokai and Lanai incl. Kaluaaha, Kamalo, Kaunakakai, Keomuku and Pukoo

Range of stamp issues with significant amount from last issue, Royal Portraits, some Postal Stationery and Postal Cards, few Officials, nice group on covers, most of the markings are well-struck and easily readable, the major towns obviously have more examples but many of the smaller towns and are also well-represented by multiple examples, usual disclaimer as to small faults as usually seen in lots of this size

A FANTASTIC COLLECTION OF THE TOWN MARKINGS OF HAWAII, OFFERED VIRTUALLY INTACT. THE LOT OFFERED HERE IS THE RESULT OF DECADES OF ACQUISITIONS AND IS TRULY REMARKABLE.

Oahu Railway & Land Co. and Kahului cancels, Kukaiau Mill, Wainae Sugar Co., registration markings, group with cancels from outside of Hawaii incl. San Francisco, Vancouver, New Zealand, some manuscript cancels, grid on cover with No. 32 and U.S. No. 68 with "Hawaiian Steam Service" oval to Ill. (seriously defective), ship cancels, port of arrival markings, few Dead Letter Office markings, range of issues with mostly Royal Portraits or later, some faulty but the value of the lot is in the cancels

Davey, this volume contains the killer cancellations section and includes crosses and geometrics, letters incl. "H" "HI", "KP", "K", "HP", "FD", many with different styles, also targets in varying styles incl. "PO" in target, star in circle, square grids, barred square, circular grids, grid of squares, barred circles, circle of wedges, also some private companies such as Kukaiau Mill, Paauilo, Hamakua Mill, most are on Royal Portraits issue, the cancels are generally well-struck and clear, some faults to stamps to be expected
