VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK JACK ON HAWAIIAN MAIL, AND ONE OF THE FEW MOURNING ENVELOPES EXTANT.
The black-bordered mourning envelope was used by Elisha H. Allen in honor of King Kamehameha IV, who died on November 30, 1863. This was carried on the Hanoverian bark Harburg, departing Honolulu on February 27, 1864, and arriving in San Francisco on March 20. (Image)
